What is it with the camel comments?

Twice now, this reviewer, http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A26TSW6AI59ZCV/ref=cm_cd_pdpReviewDetail/002-5252214-5336844, has made some unusual comments. S.A.M. picked up one the first one, but here's another one "Yes, the camel is now actively involved. The camel is strict and swift, but fair. The guilty shall be punished, and the righteous shall find their reward. Unless the camel gets it backwards, again."

A top reviewer, numerous Amazon friends (including Grady Harp). LOL, even MM doesn't understand him/her. Thoughts?

Where is it? The link points to the profile.

OK, I found it. Didn't understand either; gotta be some insider joke or something, kinda like The Rabbit Picture(TM). I don't think it's worthy of attention.

This guy must be a fan of David Baldacci and his book The Camel Club. It is a book about four men who consider themselves a secret conspiracy watchdog organization. They are concerned about right and wrong.

From comment made by Top Reviewer C McCallister on the book Courting Trouble:

"Yes, the camel is now actively involved. The camel is strict and swift, but fair. The guilty shall be punished, and the righteous shall find their reward. Unless the camel gets it backwards, again."

Oops, posted the quote twice, sorry :-)

This reviewer is all over the HK reviews with the obtuse camel comments today.

He is a clinical psychologist ( OR SAYS HE IS... ). Maybe he is just playing mind games?

Oh, s/he's definitely playing mind games--but they are mind games in the spirit of Monty Python and the like. Innocent and ridiculous, yet charming, nonsense meant to remind people of the baseline absurdity present in the current "comment wars."

I believe it may be time to approach discussion board members regarding the "Harp" issue. Harriet is revealing herself as an unstoppable force of nature, who just goes on, and on--BUT, Harp (most likely) has revealed himself as someone interested in effectuating real (malevolent) change on Amazon. Him and his posse gotta go--simple as that. Granted, we cannot be 100% sure it's him and his friends who are manipulating comment deletion, but several bits of curiosity suggest his lickspittle parade:

1. jfoureur has been silent for a couple days (suspected of being Harp and/or Harp-confidant)
2. Coinciding with Barbara's reinstatement was a curious decceleration of vote-puffing on Harp's reviews.

Surely, several of the top reviewers/discussion-board members have tangled with his idiotic vote-farm from time to time. Perhaps a concerted, united front would yield fruit? If this question has already been posed by someone as a board post, then mea culpa for my presumption. What does everyone think?

By the way, although Barbara has been reinstated, I'm still planning on finishing up that "member-banned-protest" letter sometime today, if people still are intrigued. Perhaps a general "diffuse vote-farm power" letter would also be useful?

I have been dipping my toe in the waters of the discussion board recently in the hope that there could be found some like-minded individuals. Also because my name had been mentioned and I wanted to speak for myself. Other than one attack, I fared reasonably well. It's disturbing that there seems to be an air of resignation among many of them concerning G.H.'s vote manipulation but perhaps that could change.

Since many of them had concerns about Amazon's new format I said I would put some information here on the topic. I think M.K.'s idea is an excellent one. I'm still curious as to why Amazon removed my comments in the first place.

Barbara, this note someone quoted from in one of the HK comments threads: the one about this group ganging up to kick you off Amazon. Was it anonymous?

Barbara Delaney said...

Yes. The subject line was "your internet purchases". I do a fair amount of shopping so I opened it...

Misfit said...

Barbara, what is the name of the topic on the DB's you commented on? I'd hate to have to wade through all of them to find the comments you are talking about.

Barbara Delaney said...

I believe it's called "another Harriet thread". I'll check.

Malleus said...

Oh, OK, thanks. For some reason I thought it came from a particular person; I guess I misunderstood.

Moderator,

I think we might be talking past each other. The discussion board thread that I made a few comments on is called "another Harriet thread". I started commenting somewhere in the thirty-five comment range. Someone here had posted a link. Mirasreviews had wondered what was going on and I wanted to attempt to speak directly to people there.

Malleus said...

No, no, I think I got it (it was Misfit who was looking for the DB thread; I otoh was talking about this thuggish email someone quoted from in HK comments). I think we are in sync :-)

I have begun reading those camel comment and They give me a good chuckle because it lightens the mood with everyone scratchign their heads going "huh"?

I don't find them cute or funny. The man that is making them used to comment fairly frequently in defense of Grady Harp. He's one of Mr. Harp's friends and along with someone named M.J. Leonard he would defend the unlikely voting record of Grady Harp.

Office Lover was the person who really brought the whole Grady Harp voting anomaly to light. He made comments for over a year with little or no support. He had some particularly vicious comments made towards him, several of which I'm very happy to see were removed by Amazon.

If you look back over G.H.'s reviews you will see one for Little Miss Sunshine dated December 21 2006. In one comment M.J. Leonard says "To all the loyal Grady voters- don't forget that my review of this great film is on the next page."

On one of C.MCCALLISTER'S reviews he states in a comment on his own review " I want to thank everyone for their generous votes."

Now, who do you suppose M.J. Leonard and C.MCCALLISTER were talking to?

I also see Eileen Riebach (Sp?) jumping in on the camel comments. Curiously, she has a camel photo on her profile page. Hmmm.

Malleus said...

Misfit, why do you find this important?

Moderator, sorry but I'm a credit manager and can't stand an unsolved mystery :-)

I find it curious that after all those strange comments about the camel, being actively involved, etc. and then BOOM, in comes this Eileen person holding court with her opinions (and having a camel picture on her profile to boot) is rather coincidental.
